- 2 1/4 cups self-rising flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 50 g butter, chopped
- 1/3 cup grated savory cheese
- 40 g coarsely chopped raw ham
- 1/4 cup flat-leaf parsley leaves, chopped
- 3/4 cups of milk
- extra butter, for serving
- Preheat the oven to 200°C. Lightly grease a large baking sheet. Sift 2 cups flour and salt together in a large bowl. Add the butter. Using your fingertips, rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
- Add cheese, ham and parsley. Stir with a wooden spoon until combined. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. For the milk into the well. Using a flat-bladed knife, stir until the mixture begins to come together (do not over-mix or the rolls will become tough).
- Sprinkle some of the remaining flour on the workbench. Place the dough on a bench and knead gently until the dough comes together. Form a 20 cm disc. Divide the dough into 6 pieces and separate. Roll each piece into a ball.
Place on prepared tray, leaving room for spreading. Sprinkle lightly with remaining flour. Using the knife, draw a cross 1 cm deep on the top of the rolls. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown (rolls should sound hollow when tapped on base). Serve hot with butter.
